North Macedonia’s former minister of interior Gordana Jankuloska was sent to jail on Monday, after the court of appeals sentenced her to 4-years for her involvement in the purchase of a luxury car for about 600 thousand euros.
Jankuloska was sentenced to 6 years for “misuse of office” by a first-instance court in 2018, but her sentence was reduced by the higher court.
The former minister was found to have encouraged her subordinate to rig the tender by favoring a specific company – Mak Auto Star.
Former prime minister Nikola Gruevski was also sentenced to two years over the same charges.
The Macedonian opposition VMRO-DPMNE party said Jankuloska’s imprisonment is a political vendetta by the current government of Zoran Zaev.
