French President Emmanuel Macron has proposed for the resumption of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue to take place at a Paris summit as soon as both sides are ready.
In a letter sent to Kosovo’s Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, Macron has offered France’s support with reforms to strengthen rule of law in Kosovo, fight against corruption and organized crime, economic and social development, as well as EU integration.
Macron has stated the “core challenge” facing the Kosovo government: “resuming the dialogue with Serbia and seeking a solution to your dispute through a comprehensive, final and legally binding agreement.”
For more than a year, France and Germany have been committed to resuming the dialogue, which could begin during a forthcoming summit in Paris. I believe in your participation in this summit and in your readiness to take the necessary measures to enable the resumption of the dialogue, while Serbia will also have to do its part,” Macron wrote.
In his letter, Macron has emphasized that “the role of the EU should remain central” as the dispute is “a challenge for the European security”, while both countries aim at joining the EU.
The French President has assured Kosovo’s Prime Minister that High Representative Josep Borrell and EU’s Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak have his full confidence to lead the mediation in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
