Mass Vaccination of Over 50s, Including Foreign Residents Starts in Albania

The mass vaccination of those aged 50-59 has started in Albania today.

Health Minister Ogerta Manastirliu made the announcement during a press conference.

Foreigners living in Albania are also entitled to get the vaccine as long as they have a residence permit. Any foreign resident over 50 can proceed to the nearest mass vaccination center and present their residence permit and passport to receive the vaccine. They should also make doctors aware of any medical conditions they have.

They will receive a small card with the date and type of vaccination and information on when they will get the second dose.

It’s believed they will receive Coronavac; a Chinese vaccine recently approved for emergency use by the WHO and EU.

Manastirliu also said there are only three patients in the COVID-19 infectious diseases hospital. She added more than 1 million vaccines have arrived in the country and 880,000 residents have received one dose, and over 365,000 of those have also had a second dose.

Other vaccines being used are Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik.
