Emergency medical staff in Lezhe are protesting today after the government failed to give them the EUR 1000 a month bonus until the end of the COVID-19 pandemic like it promised.
On 10 March, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that all front-line doctors, nurses would receive an extra EUR 1000 a month until the end of the pandemic. Sanitary workers and drivers would receive an extra EUR 500.
Gathered in front of the hospital today, workers said the Hospital Directorate had informed them they would be getting only EUR 40 instead. The workers said they have decided to refuse this amount and donate it to help families in need.
They added they will continue to serve their patients and citizens of Lezhe, despite the government’s failure to fulfil their promise.
