Ministry: Albania Has Capacity for Treating COVID, Third COVID Hospital Opens

Deputy Minister of Health Mira Rakacolli stated that citizens should not panic as the country has enough hospital capacity and resources to treat all of those infected with COVID-19.

During a press conference today, she said:

“Let us have no fear. Hospital capacity will be sufficient to treat COVID-19.”

She appealed to citizens to be careful, wear masks, and avoid crowded places.

“Continue to wear masks, respect the restrictions we added last week. Don’t go to bars, don’t gather in groups of more than 10, and avoid attending family events.”

In relation to the allegations that the government is hiding the real number of deaths, Rakacolli said that doctors report the numbers very carefully and the Ministry declares all deaths reported by them.

On Sunday, the third COVID-19 hospital was opened in Tirana. This provides additional beds exclusively for patients infected with the virus. COVID 1 and COVID 2 are believed to be at, or near capacity.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that when COVID 3 is at capacity, they will open the fourth hospital, COVID 4.
