Albania’s Moglica hydropower plant has begun commercial activities.
One of the two hydropower plants in the Devoll cascade, the Moglica HPP was constructed by Norwegian company Statkraft. The Moglica dam is about 167 meters high, one of the highest of its kind in the world.
Its construction began in 2015 and was planned to begin operations in the second trimester of 2020.
The start of operations in Moglica is expected to increase Albania’s electricity generation. The HPP has an installed capacity of 184 MW and will generate on average 450 GWh annually.
In his visit to the HPP, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that construction for the Skavica HPP is expected to begin the following year.
The Albanian government has granted a significant number of permits for the construction of hydropower plants in the country, despite concerns over their environmental impact.
