Monitor: Kastrati in Talks to Buy Tirana International Airport

Kastrati Group is in negotiations to buy the concession for the Rinas Airport from Chinese investors, according to Monitor.al.

It’s reported that they are currently in negotiations and the transaction is expected to be completed in the following days. The Rinas Airport, the only operational airport in the country is owned by “Tirana International Airpot” which has 100% of its shares owned by a Chinese company called “Real Fortress Limited”.

In April 2016, a Chinese financial services group called China Everbright announced that it had entered into an agreement to purchase the concession rights at Tirana International Airport, through its subsidiary Real Fortress Limited. The rights were purchased by the three shareholders, Albanian-American Enterprise Fund, DEG-Deutsche Investments, and AviaAlliance. The sale price of the shares was EUR 82.25 million euros.

Tirana International Airport did not respond to Monitor’s request for comment.

Kastrati is the largest group in the country its activities include oil and fuel, construction, and logistics. The group is also known for the government’s favourable approach to their projects.
