More Afghan Refugees Arrive in Albania

On Sunday, Albania received 182 more Afghan refugees arriving on two different flights.

The Albanian government has opted to shelter Afghan refugees in hotels and student housing instead of the asylum and refugee center, saying this will provide them with a more welcoming environment.

Thousands of Afghans are fleeing their country following the US withdrawal and Taleban takeover.

Albania and Kosovo were among the first countries to offer temporary shelter to fleeing refugees most of whom had worked for the US supported Afghan government.

Today Kosovo is expected to receive the first group of refugees. Albania has so far welcomed 417 of them, while the total number is expected to rise to around 4,000.
