Municipality of Tirana Opens Tender for Design of National Theatre

The Municipality of Tirana opened on July 3 the tender for the design of the new National Theater, worth 500 thousand euros.

The winner of the tender will be announced on July 14. The source of funding is from the budget of the Municipality of Tirana.

No information has been made public and given on the design task, or technical specifications of this project.

The project was initially supposed to be paid by Fusha Shpk who would receive the land for free. This was due to the state not being able to afford it. Then, it was announced that the development would be paid for by the Municipality.

The National Theater collapsed on May 17, 2020, following the covert decision of the Municipal Council on May 14, 2020.

The demolition of the National Theater was condemned by MEPs, who demanded an investigation into the violence and the arrest of protesters during the plenary session of the EP Foreign Affairs Committee on 22 June.
