Albania’s electoral system will not change.
Sources told Exit News that government and opposition representatives at the Electoral Reform Political Committee have agreed to make administrative modifications, but not change the electoral system entirely.
Changing the electoral system was proposed by the parliamentary opposition that proposed four main changes at the Political Council on Electoral Reform.
On May 21, head of the Electoral Reform Political Committee Damian Gjiknuri declared that there would be no change in the electoral system. During a parliamentary session, he said that if changes to the electoral system were made, then “the Constitution would disintegrate”.
On January 11, Democratic Party (PD) leader Lulzim Basha told the press that PD had decided not to interfere with the electoral system, choosing instead to focus on the “fight for free elections.”
