Majko: Open Borders between Kosovo and Albania from Jan. 1, 2019

During a visit to Prishtina, Minister of Diaspora Pandeli Majko announced that from Jan. 1, 2019 there borders between Albania and Kosovo will be opened for people and goods and the two countries will enter into a customs union.

The Serbian Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Đurić called the opening of the borders between Albania and Kosovo “irresponsible,” reiterating the official Serbian standpoint that Kosovo is not a sovereign country.

Enver Hoxha has died, while there exists not Great Albania and will never exist. Kosovo and Albania don’t have any borders, but there is a border of 111 km between Serbia and Kosovo.

Serbia continues to be vehemently against a customs union between Albania and Kosovo, which it sees as a “Great Albania” threat. Meanwhile Prime Minister Edi Rama has on occasion declared that Albania will not enter the EU without Kosovo.
