During a meeting on Wednesday, the leader of the opposition party Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku presented Prime Minister Kurti with a document detailing the principles that the LDK believes Kosovo must protect during the upcoming dialogue with Serbia on the normalization of the relations between the two countries.
According to Abdixhiku, the document stated that the dialogue between the two countries must follow the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on Kosovo’s independence, that the territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo is non-negotiable, and the constitutional organization of the country cannot be affected. In addition, the document stipulates that any comprehensive peace agreement between Kosovo and Serbia should result in mutual formal recognition.
Abdixhiku also reiterated calls for the participation of the United States of America in the dialogue process.
“Without US participation there should be no dialogue. Kosovo appreciates the role of the EU, but seeks the involvement of the US in the dialogue. This is non-disputable,” Abdixhiku said.
Yesterday, former Prime Minister of Kosovo and the leader of the opposition party Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj also requested that a US representative be part of the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia.
Kurti is consulting with opposition leaders prior to his meeting with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic which is expected to be held in Brussels during June.
The acting head of the opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Enver Hoxhaj, has refused Kurti’s invitation.
