Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani said that the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) have a place in NATO, during a visit to the general staff on Thursday (9 June).
The country is not a member of NATO as it does not enjoy the recognition of all members which is one of the prerequisites of entrance.
“We also talked about our strategic partnership with allied countries, especially with the United States. The KSF is increasing every day its operational and interactive capacities with NATO in this organization, where the KSF has its place and where we are working together to have membership in the Partnership for Peace as soon as possible and then in accordance with the plan of transition and with the support we will have from our friends for NATO membership “, said Osmani.
On 4 May, Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced during a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, that the country would apply for membership of the Council of Europe and NATO’s Partnership for Peace program.
The Partnership for Peace is a program of cooperation between NATO and partner countries. For many countries, it has been a precursor to NATO membership, which is also the aim of Kosovo.
