The Albanian parliamentary Law Committee has struck down President Ilir Meta’s refusal to decree the special normative acts passed by the government that would increase penalties for television channels that violate coronavirus social distancing measures.
With 16 votes for and 1 against, the Commission dismissed Meta’s claims surrounding these acts.
A few days ago, the President sent the normative acts back to parliament, arguing that the penalties they impose are disproportionately harsh, and may constitute an infringement of media and information freedom.
