PDK Wins Kosovo Elections, Vetëvendosja Surprising Second

Yesterday night the Central Election Commission in Kosovo published the latest number with 90% of the votes counted.

Winning the plurality of the votes is the coalition of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and the Initiative for Kosovo, led by former Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, with 34.97%.

The Vetëvendosja movement came in second with 26.09%, just ahead of the coalition of former Prime Minister Isa Mustafa’s Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Behgjet Pacolli’s New Kosovo Alliance (AKR), and the new Alternative Party of Mimoza Kusari-Lila, led by Avdullah Hoti, arrived at 25.63%.

Although, being the largest party, PDK is allowed to form a coalition, chances are small that LDK will accept to do so. The PDK had voted in favor of the motion of no confidence against Mustafa.

All will depend from Vetëvendosja, led by Albin Kurti, a political protest movement which has forcefully campaigned against the border agreement with Montenegro.
