Prime Minister Edi Rama has proposed PS parliamentary group leader and former Minister of Interior Affairs under the communist regime as Speaker of Parliament at the beginning of the new season. Ruçi will replace Ilir Meta, who will become President on July 24.
During the recent elections, Ruçi was reelected with a parliamentary mandate in Fier.
Ruçi is former First Secretary of the Party of Labor in Tepelena and former Minister of Interior Affairs under Ramiz Alia in 1990. It is rumored that he presided over the large-scale destruction of archival materials. Ruçi has never publicly apologized for his role in the former dictatorship.
More recently, Ruçi played a questionable role in the establishment of the vetting institutions.
