Political Leaders Respond to Albanian President’s Platform for EU Integration

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has expressed his willingness to seat in talks with the President, opposition and international partners, after President Ilir Meta presented a platform for accelerating the country’s EU accession.

Democratic Party (PD) leader Lulzim Basha stated that he supports the President’s proposals.

Rama tweeted today that at the precipice of the Action Plan for Negotiations being approved by the National EU Integration Council, there is no better time for the President, the opposition, judicial institutions, and international partners to sit at the table “with open cards.”

In a later tweet, Rama said that the proposals of the platform put forth by the President are mixed in their nature, and those related to EU integration must be separate from those related to the Constitution and the justice reform.

Whilst commenting on Meta’s platform, Basha added that Rama’s government would not be able to meet the 14 EU integration conditions, as doing so would hurt Rama’s own benefactors. Basha declared that the unified opposition has one duty, and that is removing Rama from power.
