President and Parliament to Jointly Push for Swift Appointments at Constitutional Court

The President and Parliament will work together to find solutions to the swift appointment of new members to the Constitutional Court.

On Tuesday, President Ilir Meta and Speaker of Parliament Gramoz Ruçi agreed for experts of both institutions to immediately start identifying the issues that require urgent and medium-term solutions, and measures to achieve them.

The decision comes after the Venice Commission opinion regarding appointments to the Constitutional Court, as well as US Ambassador’s appeal for parties to cooperate. Meta then called for a meeting with Ruci.

The Constitutional Court remains dysfunctional for two years, with only 4 of its 9 members. Its operationality is one of the EU conditions to start accession talks with Albania.
