President Ilir Meta has sent 11 questions to the Ministry of Health and Minister of Health, the Prime Minister, and Speaker of Parliament, regarding the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in Albania.
Yesterday marked the highest number of deaths since the pandemic began.
His questions include:
- Given that Albania has the lowest number of tests in Europe, what measures have been taken to increase this number?
- Is there any prediction for when and how much the number of tests will increase in the coming days?
- Do we have enough medical and support staff to ensure contact tracking, especially with the increasing number of COVID-19 infections?
- What efforts have been made to make the family doctor more efficient both at the testing level and in the diagnosis and treatment of outpatients?
- What measures have been taken to reimburse the cost of treatments of patients who are treated as outpatients, given that the costs are very high for Albanian citizens?
- How many hospital and resuscitation facilities are available to COVID patients and how many are available to other chronically ill or non-chronically ill patients?
- Is there a coordination plan between public and private health systems for testing, tracking, and treatment of COVID-19 patients?
- How is seasonal influenza vaccination planned and what percentage of the high-risk population is vaccinated to date?
- What measures have been taken to provide the vaccine and to vaccinate the population against COVID-19 and how are the phases of this vaccination to be carried out after the vaccine is released?
- Are sufficient funds planned in the state budget to cope with the growing COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences on the health of the population?
- How much funding has been used so far and how much is projected to be made in the coming weeks and months, and what are the financial instruments that will be used to cope with the deteriorating health situation?
Rama responded on Twitter by saying that the increase in numbers is within forecasts and that to avoid a lockdown, everyone must implement simple rules. He also congratulated the Minister of Health for her work as well as experts, doctors and nurses.
He added that Meta should leave the matter to the experts.
