President Bujar Nishani is expected to announce the date for the 2017 national elections this week.
According to the Albanian Constitution, the mandate of the current parliament will end four years after its first session, on September 9, 2017.
As the Electoral Law determines that the President should announce the new election date no later than nine months before the end of the parliamentary mandate, President Nishani is expected to announce the new date before December 9.
The date for the elections is expected to fall on one of the two last Sundays of the electoral period that starts on March 15 and ends June 30: June 18 or 25, 2017.
