Albanian President Ilir Meta requested the government to consider the following four points as part of the post-earthquake measures, after a meeting he held with university professors and academics:
- Updating the Physical Risk Map to identify areas with high seismic risk;
- Implementing European codes of construction;
- Amending legislation on building safety;
- Financial support for related research institutions.
Yesterday, opposition leader Lulzim Basha also suggested three urgent steps for the government to take in its earthquake relief plan.
A magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit Albania on November 26, leaving 51 dead, more than 900 injured, and thousands of collapsed buildings.
