Prime Minister Rama Clarifies His Offer for the Opposition

Prime Minister Rama spoke today after the end of the meeting with Ambassador Lu and Vlahutin about the negotiations with opposition leader Basha.

He stated that “I have proposed [….] A monitoring, like never before, of all state structures, of the police, Regional Education Directorates and all our education system, our prison system, which have been pointed out as problematic areas in the ODIHR’s previous report and an agreed upon regulation on how to avoid using state-owned assets in the campaign and a certain category of government activities that should not be used in the campaign. ”

Mr. Rama said he is ready to hold negotiations with the opposition until the moment when ballot printing starts.

He also expressed willingness to hold other meetings with Mr. Basha, if they were to help resolving the political crisis.

As for the postponement of the election date, the Prime Minister stated that there would be no such postponement.

It is unclear what the Prime Minister means in terms of monitoring and who will conduct this monitoring. Also, the Prime Minister does not seem to support the last week’s proposal for the replacement of four ministers with caretaker ministers.
