Prosecution Demands Dismissal of Tepelena and Poliçan Mayors

Following up on its previous announcements, the General Prosecution as today demanded the dismissal of Mayor of Tepelena Tërmet Peçi and the Mayor of Poliçan Adriatik Zotkaj.

Both mayors from the Socialist Party (PS) are accused of hiding previous convictions from the decriminalization self-declaration form.

General Prosecutor Llalla announced that the Prosecution will start a criminal investigation of Peçi and Zotkaj for the falsification of documents.

In 2004, Tërmet Peçi was convicted by the Court in Tepelena for the falsification of documents. Whereas Peçi claimed not to remember his conviction, the verdict published by the court states that Peçi admitted guilt and expressed regret for his actions.

Adriatik Zotkaj is thought to be the organizer of a criminal group and support drug trafficking. On his self-declaration form, he otherwise mentioned three previous convictions: three years imprisonment for violating traffic regulations; 10 months imprisonment for resisting the police; one year imprisonment without specifying the crime.
