The Office of the Prosecutor General has confirmed that none of the 16 names picked by Prime Minister Rama for his third cabinet have ongoing investigations against them.
Last week, President Meta sent a request to the Prosecutor General asking for this information before he approves Rama’s government as a whole. The government will then be voted on by Parliament.
This was the first time that the president has made such a request in public. By law, even if a person is the subject of an ongoing investigation, that does not prohibit him/her from becoming minister.
On Saturday, Meta formally nominated Rama to form a new government. Rama announced his third cabinet last week during a party meeting.
