As an indication of the atmosphere that has developed within the General Prosecution Office, where Temporary General Prosecutor Arta Marku has wreaked havoc with a series of potentially unconstitutional decisions, not a single prosecutor has applied for the vacancy at the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP), after the vetting disqualified all applicants for one of the positions.
Initially the deadline was October 10, but Marku has now extended the deadline with an additional 15 days. It is unclear from which law Marku has derived the authority to do so, because the legal framework approved unilaterally by the Socialist majority was deficient at major points. If no new candidate applies for the vacant KLP position and passes the vetting, the KLP will not be able to be installed – and elect a legitimate General Prosecutor.
