Qatar, represented by Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD), signed a $5 million grant agreement with the Albanian government to pay for the reconstruction of two secondary schools and one kindergarten in Tirana.
The agreement was signed by QFFD Director-General Khalifa bin Jassem al-Kuwari and Albanian Minister of State for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj.
In a statement, QFFD said that the agreement aims at providing equal opportunities and high-quality education in Albania, through the reconstruction of schools and equipping them with modern facilities.
Two secondary schools are planned to be built comprising an area of 8,000 and 3,632sq m, besides a kindergarten of 1,875sq m.
The new schools will serve more than 3,000 students in Tirana.
The signing ceremony was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Albania Ali bin Hamad al-Marri and the Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj.
10 months after the 26 November earthquake, zero schools have been reconstructed in Albania. The new school year starts today.
