Rama Calls Request to Remove National Road Toll “Grotesque”

Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that the debate on the toll of the National Road between Albania and Kosovo is grotesque, emphasizing that the incumbent president, Vjosa Osmani used it to win votes.

During his speech, Rama stressed that the toll is not a border crossing payment but a payment to maintain the road.

“Even more grotesque is the debate over the toll. The road toll is presented as the border set for Kosovo. This is to do domestic politics with an administrative issue of the neighbouring country and to come to Tirana to do propaganda to win votes in Kosovo with absurd demagoguery and rhetoric because there is no border there. “

Rama said that the problem of politics in Kosovo is the confusion of domestic and foreign policy.

Osmani visited Tirana last week. She gave a speech in Parliament and asked the Albanian state to remove the toll on the road. She called it a “barrier in communication between the two countries that goes against the spirit of free movement and strengthening inter-Albanian relations.”

Rama did not attend her speech and when Osmani was asked about the apparent snub later, she replied: “I truly did not notice that.”

In his press conference today, Rama said that Albania has no problems with Kosovo but that “Kosovo has problems with itself”.
