The European Union presented yesterday the new methodology that the EU will pursue for the integration of new countries.
During the presentation, Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Olivér Várhelyi emphasized that in monitoring the candidate countries, special attention will be paid to law enforcement and economic development.
Exit News followed politicians’ reactions to the new methodology:
Prime Minister Edi Rama:
“Some progress has been made even with the new methodology, some arguments are good.
Although it would have been easier without these arguments, now it has become fairer and predictable for everyone, as it was becoming a nightmare and schizophrenic.
The Council is increasingly held hostage to the internal dynamics of their countries. ”
EU Ambassador Luigi Soreca
“The European Commission’s proposal for a revised methodology for the EU accession process is good news for Albania’s European future.
It drives EU membership forward, and will also improve and encourage the delivery of reforms. 2020 is a key year for Albania. ”
SP Parliamentary Group Chairman Taulant Balla:
“The European Commission, through the new Enlargement Methodology, has offered to the Western Balkan countries a credible plan based on the individual merit of each of our six countries.
The European Commission reaffirmed today the clear assessment that Albania and Northern Macedonia are ready to begin accession talks with the European Union immediately. “
Former Integration Commission Chairman Genc Pollo:
“Two things left a special impression on me:
The first is his focus on the new methodology of the rule of law.
Secondly, his visit to Tirana and Skopje to understand the root causes of the problems that hinder European integration.
Something new and extremely positive. ”
