Rita Ora Covers Costs of Rebuilding a Family’s Home after Deadly Quake

The Sala family in the village of Pinar in Tirana enjoyed the new home built thanks to the support of singer Rita Ora, who paid for it in full.

The family thanked the singer and the Mayor of Tirana, who was there to deliver the house keys. One of the family members, Edlira Sala, said:

“I had never thought in my life that a singer would come to help me. I thank her so much for doing so for my family. “

The Sala family has 6 members. Their old home was badly damaged by the November 26 earthquake.

After the earthquake, Mayor Veliaj appealed for solidarity. He urged all those who could help rebuild homes.

The appeal was answered on November 28 by Rita Ora, who said in an Instagram post:

“[…]Together with Mayor Veliaj we have chosen a family to support the rebuilding of the house after the devastating earthquakes that hit Albania, and I personally will directly assist these families as much as I can.

[…]The first family I have chosen is the Sala family, and I will follow this initiative and many other families who need help.”

The November 26 earthquake killed 51 people and injured over 900, damaged about 8,000 buildings and left thousands homeless in the districts of Durres, Lezha and Tirana.
