Salaries and Number of Construction Permits Decrease, Costs Go up in q2 2020

The number of construction permits issued in Tirana during Q2 of 2020, decreased by 38.3% on the same period of last year.

According to statistics from INSTAT, 209 building permits were issued in four months, a reduction from the three 339 issued in Q2 2019. The permits issued equate to a building area of 223,394 square metres, a decrease of 36.6% on last year.

In terms of value, the approximate value of the issued permits is 14.8 billion Lek ( EUR 119 million), a decrease of 18% on last year. 

The majority of permits issued were for residential buildings, 136 in total. Some 73 were non-residential commercial buildings.

While there has been a decrease in the number of permits granted, the cost of construction has gone up marking an 0.4% increase annually. In terms of the difference between Q2 2020 and Q2 2019, costs went up between 1.0% and 1.9%.

Notably, salaries decreased by 1.0% and the cost of materials by 1.2%.
