The National Inspectorate for the Protection of the Territory (IKMT) has filed a lawsuit against the current and former mayors of Saranda, Florjana Koka and Edmond Gjoka.
Koka and Gjoka are accused of “abuse of office” and “falsification of documentation” in granting construction permits.
Alongside the two mayors, the lawsuit also included former City Planning director Panajot Gunari.
According IKMT’s official announcement, the lawsuit concerned a seaside building near the Çuka Channel.
The officials in question are responsible for granting, in violation of the law, the permit to the company Daed shpk and extending the term of the permit for the object “multifunctional compound”, in the seaside area, near the Çuka Channel.
Florjana Koka became Saranda mayor in 2015 under the banner of the Socialist Party.
A year ago, another lawsuit was filed against her with the same accusation of “abuse of office” and causing damages valued at $1 million to the state budget.
In 2017, it was the State Supreme Audit Institution (KLSh) that filed the lawsuit after finding infractions in the public tenders process, payment of wages and incomplete investments.
