Serbia is offering COVID-19 vaccines to foreigners who travel to the country.
Hundreds of people have flocked to the country this week to get the vaccine for free. Serbia currently has one of the highest rates of vaccination in Europe, significantly higher than many of its Western Balkan neighbors. According to official data, more than 2.1 million of some seven million have been vaccinated in-country so far.
Serbia has also donated vaccines to Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia. The media reports that many of the vaccine tourists have come from these countries, as well as Albania.
Marko Cadez, the head of Serbia’s Chamber of Commerce said his business had 10,000 shots for business people from the region.
“We are all one region and only together we can beat this scourge,” he said.
Critics have said that Serbian President Aleksander Vucic is giving vaccines for free to strengthen his country’s influence in the region.
Serbia is currently using Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, and Sinopharm.
