Serbia Showcases New Chinese Drone Purchases

On July 4, the Serbian military showcased six new military CH92-A drones purchased from China for the first time.

Besides the drones, Serbia also purchased 18 missiles from China.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic described the drones as having a 9 km range and the capability of recording the terrain and objects of interest “deep within enemy territory.”

He also told reporters that Serbia had agreed to cooperate with Chinese experts with the intention of Serbia being able to develop a similar unmanned aircraft eventually.

Serbia’s weapons procurement has previously raised concerns, and even provoked threats of sanctions by the United States. The drones were purchased in September 2019. In December 2019, Vucic announced that the Serbian military would stop buying weapons.
