Under the motto “Solidarity and Resilience” FemArt Festival started its eighth edition on Thursday in the Kosovo’s capital, Prishtina.
During six days the festival will be hosting 24 events with performances, exhibitions, workshops, podcasts and conferences by 160 local and international artists.
“We have decided to name FemArt Festival 2020 under the motto “Solidarity and Resilience”. Solidarity as a principle of mutual support between women and girls, artists and activists working for gender equality and women’s rights and Resilience as the ability to face adversity, trauma and challenge by standing up whenever we fall and raising our voice whenever they try to silence us,” the director and the founder of festival, Zana Hoxha said at the opening ceremony.
For the past seven years, according Hoxha, FemArt managed to empower thousands of women and girls in the recognition of their full rights through good and quality art created by artists and activists in order to achieve equality in political, economic, cultural, personal, and social level.
The eighth edition of this festival is the first live one taking place during 2020 in Kosovo considering the COVID- 19 situation.
“I must admit, it’s going to be the most locally sourced edition of FemArt ever,” Hoxha said.
The festival was open with the “Evening Nudes” exhibition at the Gallery of the Faculty of Arts, curated by Arta Agani, and a concert by “Zanat” ensemble at the Oda Theatre.
One of the festival’s artistic highlights is going to be a premiere of the drag performance “Are you a boy or are you a girl!?…” directed by Arlinda Morina at the Oda Theatre on Friday.
