Suspect Involved in €2.1M Kosovo Treasury Theft Turns Himself In

Kadri Shala, one of the suspects who was in the run after receiving a transaction of over two million Euros from the Kosovo Treasury, turned himself in at the Police station in Prishtina on Monday.

He was on the run with another suspect since five days, when the theft was made public by the minister of finance.

Shala will appear before a court within 24 hours.

Last week, the Kosovo police arrested an official of the Ministry of Finance for stealing €2.1 million from the Kosovo Treasury, and transferring Shala’s private business.

Kosovo institutions have asked the blocking of some bank accounts following suspicions that part of the money has already been transferred abroad.

Minister of Finance Hykmete Bajrami assured the public that this is an isolated case, and the government’s budget is intact and safe.

The theft was made public amidst a wave of dismissals of senior official by Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, as well as the dismantling of the government’s anti-corruption department.
