Tahiri: 2016 Safer, Challenges for 2017 – Main Speech Points

Minister of Interior Affairs Saimir Tahiri today held his new year’s speech, reviewing the activities of the State Police during 2016, as well as addressing the challenges and priorities for 2017.

  • In 2016 Albania has become safer, with less criminal activity. The police was at the service of the citizens, and trust in the police has increased.
  • Our biggest victory is not in terms in numbers but has to do with mentality. Today there is no longer impunity and inequality in the face of the police.
  • During 2016, the police processed 87,000 conflicts, and 1194 persons were arrested for carrying arms without a permit. More than 2,100 people that were wanted have been arrested, and there were more than 15,00 exchanges with Interpol and Europol.
  • More than 90 persons have been arrested with the aim of being extradicted to Albania.
  • More than 350,000 citizens have been assisted by the State Police all across Albania.
  • In 2016, the police has confiscated criminal assets of a total value of €47 million, compared to €100 million in the three preceding years.
  • It remains a super priority to go after criminal assets and to harm the world of illegal assets. During this coming year we need to do much much more.
