Serbian media called Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci a “terrorist” while reporting on his resignation after a war crimes indictment was confirmed from The Hague- based Specialist Chambers on Thursday.
The Belgrade- based TV PINK said on its headline “KLA terrorist goes to The Hague”, adding that the indictment on war crimes against Thaci was confirmed.
Using Thaci’s nickname during the time he was a political leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army, TV PINK wrote: “Snake will no longer be the president of a false state, he has resigned!”.
It reported that Hashim Thaci himself confirmed the news by referring him as the “so-called” President of Kosovo.
Kurir wrote “Hashim the Snake Thaci personally confirmed: I am going to The Hague and resign from the position of the president”
While reporting on the confirmation of the war crimes indictment against the leader of Kosovo Democratic Party earlier today, Kadri Veseli, Kurir refers as “terrorist” to KLA.
“The Prosecutor’s Office of the Special Court in The Hague has confirmed the indictment against the former leader of the terrorist KLA and the president of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Kadri Veseli,” wrote Kurir.
“Thaci surrendered,” wrote B92, another media based in Belgrade while referring to Kosovo’s institutions as “provisional”.
“The President of the Provisional Institutions in Pristina, Hashim Thaci, went to the EULEX headquarters himself after his resignation,” B92 wrote.
On the other hand, the news agency Beta reported without using any offensive language towards KLA or Hashim Thaci.
“The indictment for war crimes of the Special Prosecutor’s Office was also confirmed against Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, after which he resigned from that position, it was announced today,” Beta wrote.
The indictment against Thaci and Veseli was confirmed on Thursday and was made public by themselves when Thaci also declared his resignation.
On April 24, the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) filed a ten-count indictment with the KSC against Kosovo’s president Hashim Thaci and Kadri Veseli. They are indicted for murder, enforced disappearance of persons, persecution, and torture against hundreds of Kosovo Albanians, Serbs, Roma, and other ethnicities.
Thaci, Veseli, and other suspects are alleged to be responsible for nearly 100 murders.
The Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office were established five years ago, in August 2015, by the Kosovo Parliament to investigate crimes allegedly committed by former Kosovo Liberation Army members.
