This Week in Albania’s Judicial Reform: 3 Judges Confirmed, 2 Prosecutors Dismissed

The judicial vetting process continues in Albania, the Independent Qualification Commission (KPK) this week confirmed in office three judges and dismissed two prosecutors.

On Monday the Qualification Commission confirmed in office judge Enkelejda Metaliaj (Softa) at Tirana Administrative Court of Appeal.

After two hearings on financial reporting, the judge successfully passes the vetting process regarding her background assessment, professionalism, and asset assessment.

On the same day, the Qualification Commission dismissed prosecutor Artan Hazbi, at Lushnje District Prosecutor’s Office. 

During the hearing, KPK found numerous problems of non-disclosed information, concealment of assets and lack of financial sources – a behavior comparable to an investor or businessman, in contrary to his duty.

On Tuesday the Qualification Commission confirmed in office judge Sokol Pina, at Saranda District Court.

KPK did not identify any problems regarding judge Sokol Pina. He was assessed positively regarding all three vetting assessments.

On Friday, The Qualification Commission dismissed Judge Evjeni Sinojmeri at Tirana Appeal Court.

Judge Sinojmeri did not appear at hearings and the announcement of KPK decision to dismiss her. KPK found financial inaccuracies for wealth creation.

The Qualification Commission confirmed in office judge Genti Dokollari at Korça District Court.

KPK unanimously decided to confirm Judge Dokollari paving the way for his promotion to the Courts of Appeal.
