Tirana Appeals Judge Gjin Gjoni Resigns Before Vetting

Tirana Appeals Judge Gjin Gjoni has resigned before undergoing the vetting process.

He will be able to avoid the vetting if his resignation is accepted by the High Judicial Council (KLGj).

According to BalkanWeb, Gjoni claimed in his resignation that the vetting process is not equal for all, and only those “who are politically biased” pass it.

The vetting commission investigates judges and prosecutors on grounds of their wealths, background and proficiency. Most of them have been dismissed for not being able to provide legal sources for their assets.

Judges and prosecutors who resign before vetting are also exempt from investigations by the Special  Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office (SPAK).
