A Tirana Court has suspended Armand Duka, head of the Albanian Football Association (FSHF), from his post on allegations of abuse of office and fraud. The Court also suspended General Secretary Ilir Shulku.
The decision comes 10 days after the court suspended the upcoming elections for head of the FSHF where Duka was running for a sixth term.
Elections were scheduled for March 2, but the Court has decided to suspend the proceedings as it examines allegations of electoral manipulation between current chief Armand Duka and Tirana mayor Erjon Veliaj.
In late January, the two figures entered a public spat trading of accusations over corruption, influence, and crime and culminating in a bomb attack on Dako’s house.
Meanwhile, elections for membership in the regional offices of the FSHF have also been contentious and mired in accusations of corruption and wrong-doing.
On February 14, UEFA sent a 3-person delegation to monitor the elections. The delegation is still in Albanian and continuing their work.
During February 4 visit to Tirana with Prime Minister Edi Rama, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said that UEFA was persuaded there will be no government interference in the now-suspended elections.
