The Independent Qualification Commission fired Tirana Judge Neritan Cena on Tuesday due to issues with his propety declarations.
The decision was made by Roland Ilia, Firdes Shuli and Etleda Çiftja.
During the administrative investigation, the Commission found numerous problematic transactions including “gifts” and “loans”, as well as suspicious contracts for the sale of two cars.
According to the Commission, Cena bought two apartments in Bremen, Germany and an apartment in Tirana, which he paid for through gifts and loans from close people, such as father, sister, sister-in-law, cousin and a cousin.
Despite the fact that the judge correctly stated the amounts borrowed, the persons who gave the loans could not justify where the money came from.
Cena also had problems with contracts for the sale of two cars, which turned out to have been sold at a higher price than the purchase price, after several years of use.
The judge also confronted IOM observer Steven Kessler during the hearing. The latter asked the judge how it is possible that he received so many gifts from people who could not justify it. He also expressed suspicion that Cena only received gifts, but did not make any gifts to his family.
Cena complained about the allegations, calling them “untrue allusions” and “deliberate” by an international observer.
He also disputed the Commission’s findings and said that his family has led a modest life.
Despite requesting reconfirmation in office, the Commission decided to dismiss him
