Tirana Municipality Continues Reconstruction of Skënderbeg Square

The Municipality of Tirana has started today the construction work for the second and final phase of the reconstruction of Skënderbeg Square, in the park behind the Skënderbeg monument.

The construction work will be executed by Fusha shpk, which encountered no real competition during any of the tender procedures related to the square’s renovation. The company, which is close to Prime Minister Edi Rama, won the tender for the (unplanned) underground parking garage, as well as the first phase of the renovation.

Fusha presented the only offer for the second phase of the project, at a price of 978,878,878,78 lekë (~€7.1 million), or 99.9% of the maximum funds available. In all three phases of the project, Belgian architecture studio 51N4E has “supervised” the work.

During the construction period, the Rruga Çamëria will be closed to traffic, further exacerbating the congested traffic in the city center.
