PD deputies Jozefina Topalli and Arben Imami, who were both not included on the candidate lists drafted last week, called today for the resignation of PD leader Lulzim Basha.
In a press conference, Topalli and Imami accused Basha that he has drafted the candidate list for the upcoming parliamentary elections in violation of the party statute. Imami declared:
We seek the gathering of the party forum to dismiss Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha. The decision about the PD lists has been made in violation of the party statute, there has been no consultation with anyone. It has not been the tradition of this party that there are no consultations. Let the forum gather and Lulzim Basha be deposed.
Whereas Topalli stated:
Since May 26, also officially, this is no longer the Democratic Party of December 1990. Not because I am absent from the list of deputies, but because the spirit of the Democratic Party has been replaced with the cold calculations of the New Republic. I know that those few democrats who have remained and that can be counted on the fingers of one hand are even more heartbroken than me, because they are campaigning for something in which they don’t believe, which is not theirs – the New Republic of Lulzim Basha.
Topalli accused Basha that his selection for the elections has destroyed the Democratic Party and has given certain victory to Edi Rama.
