Tragic Mountaineering Accident Claims Life of One, Second in Serious Condition

A tragic accident occurred in Albania on Thursday when a group of climbers got into difficulty and one, Ndoc Mula, fell to his death.

The team, including journalist Alfred Lela, scaled Mount Munella in Puka. Police confirmed that the body of one climber was found after he fell while navigating the steep terrain in difficult weather conditions.

Lela explained that they had scaled one peak when they encountered a strong storm which made continuing difficult. The team decided to turn around and retreat using the same route, hoping their tracks would still be visible in the snow. Unfortunately, he said, the weather conditions had erased their tracks and finding their way back proved very difficult.

During the descent, Lela said he slipped but managed to grab onto a tree trunk, preventing him from falling further.

Out of the party, one died, one was severely injured, and the other three were ok.

Lela explained the group is experienced in mountain climbing and does many such expeditions annually, with this being the last of 2021.
