On May 20, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG began the initial stage of the pipeline testing process by starting to introduce natural gas into a 4 km section of the pipeline that passes through Albania.
The testing process serves to ensure the infrastructure is safe and operational. The following step will consist in gas being gradually introduced to other sections of the pipeline in the upcoming weeks and months.
The controversial TAP pipeline is designed to connect with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), crossing Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea before coming ashore in Southern Italy to connect to the Italian natural gas network. Once the project is fully operational, it will provide a direct transportation route for natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe.
