Two Arrested for Transporting Migrants in Albania

Albanian State Police have made more arrests in the crackdown against the transport of migrants through the country in return for money.

Operation “Destination” in Tirana arrested a 28-year-old man for transporting 12 migrants. Police also found him in possession of cannabis. He was apprehended at the Rinias overpass with 12 immigrants in his vehicle. It is reported each migrant had paid EUR 150  in return for him claiming he would deliver them to an EU country.

In Elbasan, operation “Krasta” saw the arrest of a 40-year-old man who was caught transporting 34 third-country nationals. The police had received information that he was transporting them between Belisht and Elbasan with the intention of helping them illegally cross the border.

He was arrested for the criminal offence of “assistance in illegal border crossing” on his way to Kosovo.

Albanian State Police have made a large number of arrests in the last two months, relating to similar crimes.
