The United Kingdom has seen a drastic increase in the number of Coronavirus cases, and victims.
A total of 47,806 cases have been noted with 4,934 deaths and just 135 recoveries.
Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was admitted to hospital on Sunday evening for further testing. He was first diagnosed with COVID-19 ten days ago but his symptoms have persisted. He was previously in quarantine at home with his pregnant girlfriend who also has the virus.
A statement from his office said: “On the advice of his doctor, Prime Minister Boris Johnson was hospitalised this evening for tests. This is a precautionary measure as the Prime Minister has continued to have chronic coronaviru symptoms for 10 days after testing positive for the virus.”
Johnson had previously said that people should develop a herd immunity and advised the public to prepare for loved ones to die.
Last night, Queen Elizabeth II addressed the nation in a message broadcast on live television. She called on people to unite and to have pride in coming together to fight the virus. The Queen also thanked medical staff that are “fighting on the front line” and those that are staying at home.
The monarch reassured people that “better days will come” and then wished everyone good health. She has only addressed the nation in such a manner (asides from her Christmas speech) during the Gulf War in 1997, before the burial of Princess Diana in 2002, on the occasion of the death of the Queen Mother in 2012 and on the 60th Anniversary of her reign.
