Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address the Albanian parliament on May 3rd.
Since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine on February 24, Zelenskyy has made several appeals for weapons and financial support to the United States and the European Union.
Albania has followed the lead of the European Union and imposed sanctions against Russia, freezing Russian assets in Albania and banning Russian aircrafts from entering Albanian airspace.
The country, which is a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, co-sponsored a resolution calling for immediate stop of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The resolution was vetoed by Russia.
According to Interior Minister Bledi Çuçi, there are some 351 Ukrainian citizens sheltering in Albania at the moment.
In early March, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj decided to rename the road serving the Russian embassy in Albania will to “Free Ukraine Street”.
