The vaccination plan against COVID-19 in Albania should also give priority to the academic staff and academic support staff of universities. This is the request that the union of employees of Albanian universities has addressed to Prime Minister Edi Rama.
They demand the priority inclusion of the academic staff and academic assistants of the Higher Education Institutions in the national vaccination plan against COVID-19.
Professors said it’s necessary to start in-person lessons again as the continuation of online learning will increase and exacerbate shortcomings that have developed so far due to the pandemic.
“Otherwise students will not be able to compensate for these shortcomings in university education until the end of the relevant study cycle, which means that they graduate with a low level of vocational training, especially in the realization of their practical training. ”
The return of students to in-person lessons will increase the exposure of professors to the virus, the letter said, adding that during the exam season there was a “significant increase in the number of professors who became infected.”
We think that giving priority to vaccination to academic staff is realistic, because the number of full-time lecturers is about 5000 and, among them, persons over 45 years occupy only about 50% of the total number (about 2500 people).
Teaching in universities continues to take place from home via the internet since the onset of the pandemic.
Teaching in all 9-year schools and high schools in the country resumed alternately, on January 11, where some days students will go to school and other days of the week they will conduct online learning.
