Up to 1000 New Teachers to be Hired to Help Manage COVID-19 Crisis in Albanian Schools

Yesterday, the Council of Ministers decided to hire up to 1000 additional teachers to help mitigate the issues caused in schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the decision, the new teachers will be recruited from the portal “Teachers for Albania” for the pre-university education system for the school year 2020-2021.

Staff will be engaged on a part-time and full-time basis depending on the needs of the schools they will work in. The payment of new hires will be in line with a 2017 decision pertaining to supplementary and non-teaching staff in pre-university education.

The financial burden will be borne by the state budget for 2020.

Due to social distancing protocols, many classes are split into two groups. Teachers are then teaching twice as many lessons, effectively doubling their working day. They are not receiving any overtime or additional pay for these hours.
